PROJECT TITLE: SAY No to RAPE
Project Description: The mural community project is an artistic endeavor that aims to raise awareness, challenge societal norms and empower individuals to take stand against rape and sexual violence.
Through the medium of mural art, we seek to create a powerful visual statement that demands change and supports survivors. The title “Say No to Rape “encapsulates the core message of this project. It is a call to action, urging society to reject and condemn the pervasive issue of rape. The mural project is a collaboration between female artists, Bamako community members in Ojodu local government and survivors. By working together we have created a safe and inclusive space for dialogue, healing and empowerment. The mural reflects the collective efforts and shared commitment in ending rape culture and creating a society that respects and value consent.
Through vibrant colors, and bold imagery and thought provoking composition, the mural aims to captivates the viewers and evoke a range of emotions .The artworks seeks to ignite empathy and inquire action, urging viewers to challenge harmful attitudes and actively contribute to the prevention of sexual violence. The mural incorporates symbolic elements that speaks to the complexity of the issue. By placing the mural in a prominent public space, we aim to reach a wide audience and engage the community in critical conversations, encouraging individuals to question societal norms, challenge victim–blaming narratives and promote consent education. The community mural project extends beyond the artwork itself. It is a platform for education, activism and community engagement. Workshops for young girls and women and awareness campaigns accompany the mural, creating opportunities for dialogue, healing and empowerment.
Rape is not a solitary issue but a societal problem that requires united action. ”Say NO to Rape” community project is a visual statement, amplifying voices of survivors and working towards a future where rape is eradicated, consent is respected and every individual can live free from the fear and trauma of sexual violence.
