In May 2021, following the lifting of lockdown restrictions, I visited an Internally Displaced Persons camp located in Maiduguri, in the northern region of Borno state. The camp housed individuals who had been forced to flee their homes due to the ongoing war conflict and the threat of Boko Haram terrorism. During my tour of the camp, I was struck by the resilience and positivity displayed by the residents despite the adversities they faced.
There was an aura of tranquility and contentment amidst the chaos and challenges they endured. It was a poignant reminder of the profound connection between peace and happiness. Interacting with the children in the camp left a lasting impact on me, evoking a mix of overwhelming emotions. The moments shared with them will forever remain etched in my heart.
I captured the essence of their daily lives through photography: the joyous children playing near the tap, women tenderly caring for their infants in the maternity area, and men diligently tending to their grains and livestock. Each snapshot encapsulated the resilience, strength, and unwavering spirit of the individuals navigating life in the face of adversity.
