Art in time of Crisis

“Art in time of crisis” is an art diary that depicts the reflections and expressions of people’s experiences during the global covid19 pandemic. It is a 15 artworks (3 in a series) that impart lives, solidary messages and images to bring a ray of sunshine and joy and to promote mental health and well-being. Artist statement In time of crisis, art becomes a crucial lens through which we reflect upon and express our collective experiences. The global covid-19 pandemic has plunged humanity into a period of uncertainty, fear and isolation. Through my artistic practice, l aim to capture the multifaceted dimensions of this crisis, offering a space for contemplation, healing and resilience.

The three works in a series “Covid19 memes “ and “Infomania” and the “Encaged” installation serves as a visual documentation of the profound impact the pandemic has had on individuals and communities worldwide. Through vibrant colors and precise details, l depicts the hoarding of toilet rolls, sanitizes and nose masks as the funniest coronavirus memes. Funny that as people think through their mental list of things to stockpile during covid19 period, these objects ranks above food and medicine. Is social media a blessing or a curse in the era of pandemic. Social media has spread panic and it affected the mental health of social media users. Its significant impact of spreading fear and panic related to covid-19 outbreak, has a potential negative influence on people’s mental health and psychological well being.

The series captures the essence of isolation, longing and the yearning for connections that has defined this period. In the body of work, l employ various artistic techniques and mediums to capture the essence of the pandemic’s impact. Mixed media collages incorporate newspaper clippings and symbolic elements that speaks to the global scale of the crisis.

“Art in time of crisis” is not only a reflection of our present reality but also a testament to the power of art as a transformative force. It is a reminder that even in the darkest of times, creativity can serve as a source of solace, inspiration and collective healing. I aspire to foster dialogue, empathy, and a sense of interconnectedness, encouraging viewers to confront the challenges of our present moment and envision a more resilient and compassionate future
